What may and may not be on MontageU, what happens when something is, and how to tell us.

This is a draft pending attorney review. It describes how MontageU actually works and what it actually does with your files, and every statement here matches the product as built. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer, and it is not a binding agreement until it has been.

What is never allowed

None of the following may be uploaded, delivered, shown in a portfolio or sent in a message. There is no exception, no opt in, and no separate section of the site where it is permitted.

  • Sexually explicit material and nudity of any kind, including artistic nudity, suggestive content made for sexual gratification, and anything generated by a model that would fall under this if it had been filmed.
  • Any sexualised content involving a minor, whether real, depicted, illustrated or generated. This is reported, not merely removed.
  • Intimate imagery of someone who has not agreed to it being here, including images the person uploading does not have the subject's permission to use.
  • Graphic violence, gore, or footage of real harm coming to a person or an animal.
  • Hate speech, harassment, or content aimed at people for who they are.
  • Anything the uploader does not own or have the rights to, including other people's footage, other people's edits, and commercial material.
  • Content that shows or helps somebody commit a crime.

Why nudity is banned outright

It is worth being straight about this rather than leaving it to be guessed at. It is not a judgement about adult work or the people who do it.

MontageU holds client money through a payment processor, and that processor does not permit adult content anywhere on a marketplace it serves. It holds the marketplace, not only the individual, responsible for what appears. Losing payment processing would not damage MontageU, it would end it, and every editor waiting to be paid would be caught in that. The line is therefore drawn at nothing, because a line drawn anywhere else has to be argued about case by case and eventually gets crossed.

How this is checked

Every file uploaded by either side is scanned automatically before the other person on the job can see it. A file the scanner is confident about is refused at upload and never stored. A file it is unsure about is held, invisible to the other party, until a person has looked at it.

Automatic scanning is not perfect in either direction. It will occasionally hold something ordinary, and it will occasionally miss something. That is what reporting is for, and a person reviews everything that is held.

What happens when something is found

A first violation is a warning, and the content is removed. A second is a suspension. Anything involving a minor is a permanent ban with no first warning, and is reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which we are required by law to do.

Every action taken against an account is recorded with a reason, and you can ask for that reason.

An editor can always say no

An editor may refuse or hand back any job at any point before they deliver, for any reason at all, and does not have to explain it. It does not affect their rating, their completion rate, or where they appear in search.

This exists precisely for the case where a client uploads something an editor is not willing to work on. Nobody should feel they have to finish a job to protect their standing.

Telling us

Every job and every profile has a report action. Reports go to a queue a person reads, oldest first. You are not told what action was taken against another account, because that is not ours to share, but the report is read.

You can also block anyone. Blocking stops new messages and new work in both directions and can be undone from your settings.
